Sunday, July 16, 2023, was a very special day for me as I took the oath of office to be your Department Vice Commander-3rd Division this next year. With that oath comes a tremendous amount of responsibility in leading the members of the SEVEN districts that make up the 3rd Division, the largest of the four within the Department of Texas. I am ready for this challenge.

As we begin the 104th year of our great organization, it is important not to forget our past while looking forward to how we each can improve the future. We all know membership has continued to decline over the past decade. So what do we need to do to “right this ship”? I feel that we need to think “outside of the box” and come up with some new initiatives. Please let me know any ideas that you may have.

The 3rd Division fell short of goal for the 2023 membership year, as did the other three divisions. We can improve the 2024 membership year by working together from the post level up. Let’s not pretend that this will be easy because it will not. It will take a collective effort and commitment. It’s time to rededicate ourselves and remember why we joined The American Legion. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact me, as I stand ready to help in any way I can.
